At approximately 11:30 today, deputies received a complaint of dogs fighting in the Mulga area.
Once on the scene, deputies could hear what sounded like dogs fighting in the woods behind a residence on Main Street. Deputies proceeded towards the location and were met by a juvenile carrying an injured dog.
Once at the location of the dogs fighting, deputies discovered 17 pit bulls, 4 of which had injuries consistent with dog fighting. There was also a ring with fresh blood inside. Approximately 11 dog skulls have been found.
One subject has been taken into custody. A 42 year old male suspect is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of “Activity related to dog fighting” with a $15,000 bond.
Animal control is currently on the scene with the Sheriff’s Office taking custody of the dogs.
