Suspect Shot

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, at approximately 11:16 p.m., deputies were dispatched to 716 Richard Arrington Jr., Blvd to investigate a report of a person shot.  Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Birmingham Police Department officers had secured the scene.  Deputies also discovered that a 21-year-old male suspect was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso.   Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the suspect to UAB for treatment of his non-life-threatening injury, where he was to remain under guard until being transferred to the Jefferson County Jail for processing.  Deputies also discovered that an adult male was suffering from non-life- threatening injuries to his face.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a member of the Jefferson County Court House Security Team encountered a suspicious male in the parking structure of the 2121 Building and followed him to the rear of the parking garage and into an alleyway.  A verbal altercation ensued.  Next, a physical assault occurred and then a shot was fired.

The suspect has been identified as:

TY Austin Bell, 21, Transient. 1 count of 2nd Degree Assault, under a $10,000.00 bond has been obtained against this suspect.  The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
