
On Saturday, November 8, at approximately 4:10 a.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Shell gas station located at 3640 Avenue E in Fairfield, Alabama, to investigate a report of a person who had been shot.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 37-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Fairfield Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment. The victim’s current condition is unknown.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim went to the gas station seeking help and that the shooting occurred at another location.
On November 14, 2025, a suspect was identified and taken into custody.
Sheriff Mark Pettway stated, “Our team is continuously working hard to make Jefferson County safe for our citizens. This arrest exemplifies wonderful teamwork.”
The suspect has been identified as 51-year-old Rodericus Monroe. Monroe has been charged with Attempted Murder, with a bond set at $60,000. He is currently in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
