On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at approximately 4:55 p.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1600 block of North Brownlee Street to investigate a 911 hang-up call.
Upon arrival, deputies heard gunfire and observed three male subjects standing in the roadway and in a yard on Sayre Street. Two of the subjects fled toward a nearby wooded area. A 19-year-old male was taken into custody as he entered the woods.
Deputies also took a 20-year-old male into custody as he exited the wooded area. The subject was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was treated at the scene by North Smithfield Fire and Rescue. He was later transported by RPS Ambulance to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 21-year-old male victim was not injured.
Preliminary investigation revealed the original incident occurred in the 4400 block of Campbell Lane in Birmingham. During the investigation, deputies recovered a Glock 9mm pistol and an AR-15-style pistol.

Both suspects have been charged with Attempted Murder. Odom and Hicks are currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $60,000 bond.
