Arrest Made in Sex Crime Case

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, detectives obtained 10 warrants against a 42-year-old male suspect accused of committing sex crimes.

Detectives and other agency units began looking for the suspect.  As a result of their efforts, the suspect is in custody after turning himself in.

The suspect has been identified as Michael Dewoody, 42.  Dewoody has been charged with the following:

1. Sexual Torture (No Bond, Aniah’s Law)
2. Rape 1^st Degree (No Bond, Aniah’s Law)
3. Rape 2^nd Degree ($30,000 Bond)
4. Rape 1^st Degree (No Bond, Aniah’s Law)
5. Sodomy 1^st Degree (No Bond, Aniah’s Law)
6. Sodomy 1^st Degree (No Bond, Aniah’s Law)
7. Sodomy 2^nd Degree ($30,000 Bond)
8. Sexual Abuse of a Child Less than 12 ($30,000 Bond)
9. Sexual Abuse 1^st Degree ($15,000 Bond)
10. Sexual Abuse 2^nd Degree ($15,000 Bond)

Dewoody remains in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
