Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Shooting of Juvenile in Center Point

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, at approximately 8:57 p.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 800 block of Farrington Drive following a report of a person shot. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located a juvenile victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Center Point Fire & Rescue responded immediately and treaded the victim at the scene.  EMS transported the victim to Children’s Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting followed a verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect.
Deputies quickly gathered description details regarding the suspect and broadcasted the information to surrounding units.
A short time later, deputies spotted the suspect’s vehicle, conducted a successful traffic stop, and took the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect was then transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Sheriff Mark Pettway stated, “Great job by our patrol deputies.  Our citizens stepped up and gave us crucial information that helped to take this armed suspect into custody without anyone else getting hurt.  Another wonderful example of how law enforcement and citizens work together towards a common goal.”
The suspect has been identified as 17-year-old Jayden Hill. Hill was formally charged with Assault 1st Degree that carried a bond of $60,000. Hill has since posted bond and been released from the Jefferson County Jail.
