Adger Woman Charged with DUI after Striking Boyfriend with Car

33-year-old Rebecca Pennington of Adger was arrested at the scene of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian being struck.

Just before 10:30 pm last night deputies responded to the area of Johns Road and Valley Ford Road to investigate a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car.

They arrived on scene to find the 35-year-old male victim suffering critical injuries. Information from the scene is that the victim and the driver of the car are in a dating relationship. The couple had been drinking earlier in the evening and had gotten into an argument at their residence. The victim left the residence on foot. After a while, the driver, identified as Rebecca Pennington, became worried about him and got into her car to go look for him. As she drove along Johns Road she found him walking in the roadway. She was unable to stop in time and struck the victim.

The victim suffered critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Rebecca Pennington was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on the scene for DUI. Additional charges of Assault 1st Degree are expected later today. She remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $21,000.

The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the accident.
