Just after 7:00 pm on August 26 deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the 400 block of 19th Terrace NE in Center Point.
It was reported that Allen Wayne Hatley had broken into the home and assaulted a male and a female there. Hatley fled on foot before deputies arrived.
Deputies searched the area. Hatley was found hiding in a nearby wooded area. He struggled with deputies was secured and taken into custody.
The adult female victim told deputies that she knew Hatley and had told him not to come to her home. When she arrived home that evening he was in her yard. He struck her in the face causing a cut to her forehead and a busted nose. Hatley then entered the home and assaulted and adult male victim. Hatley stabbed the male in the chest with a small pocket knife and struck him in the head.
Both victims were treated on the scene by paramedics. The male victim refused to be taken to the hospital.
Hatley was transported to the Jefferson County Jail. On the way to the jail he passed out. Deputies took him to the hospital where they learned he had ingested heroin. Hatley was admitted to the hospital.
Upon his release he was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail. After arriving at the Jail deputies determined that Hatley had given a false name. It was determined that he is actually 51 year old James Edward Hatley of Attalla. He is charged with Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Attempting to Elude and Obstructing Justice with False Identity. His bond is set at $61,800.
