Bessemer Man Arrested for Burglary

A 52-year-old suspect was arrested for burglary when he was found inside the victim’s home.

Just before 3:00 pm yesterday deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the 7200 block of Taylors Ferry Road.

The homeowner reported that he had arrived home to find a vehicle in his driveway that he did not recognize. He went to a nearby church parking lot and called 911.

Deputies arrived and found the front door open. They entered the home and found 52-year-old Donald Keith Southall inside. Southall told deputies that he was friends with the owner and had permission to be in the home. The homeowner told deputies he did not know the man and had never seen him before.

Donald Keith Southall of Bessemer was arrested for Burglary 3rd Degree. During a search, he was found to be in possession of cocaine.

Southall was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was released pending court proceedings on $7500 bond.
