Birmingham Man Charged with Robbery and Attempted Murder

A 29-year-old Birmingham man has been arrested and charged with robbery and attempted murder for the April 24th robbery and shooting of a convenience store clerk in Center Point.

Just after 5:30 am on April 24th, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the Jet Pep convenience store in the 2200 of Center Point Parkway where a store employee was shot and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. 

The victim had just opened the store for business when he was approached by an armed black male suspect who shot him in an attempt to rob the store.

On Saturday, May 6th, detectives received information identifying the suspect as 29-year-old Monterius Derae King of Birmingham. A description of King and the vehicle he was driving was broadcast to deputies. The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force was contacted to assist in his apprehension.

King was located driving along I-22 in western Jefferson County and was arrested and questioned by Sheriff’s detectives. He was held at the Jefferson County Jail pending formal charges.

On May 8th Sheriff’s detectives obtained arrest warrants formally charging him with Attempted Murder and Robbery 1st Degree. He is also charged with Domestic Violence 3rd Degree and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in an unrelated case. King remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bonds set at $90,600.
