A 37-year-old Birmingham man has been charged with 2nd Degree Domestic Violence after he fired shots into the home of his ex-girlfriend Sunday morning.

Just after 7:00 am Sunday morning deputies responded to a report of shots being fired into a residence in the 1400 block of Cherry Avenue.

Kevin Zeigler

It was reported that the victim had been inside the home when a large rock crashed through the front window. She opened the front door to see her ex-boyfriend, 37-year-old Kevin Bernard Zeigler, sitting in a car in the road in front of the residence. Zeigler fired shots at the home and the car drove away.

Deputies learned that Zeigler was possibly at an apartment in the 600 block of Valley Crest Drive. Deputies went to the apartment in an attempt to locate him. Zeigler opened the apartment door and upon seeing deputies fled back inside and closed the door. Deputies pursued him into the apartment. In an effort to escape Zeigler jumped from the third floor of the apartment building. He was taken into custody. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await formal charges.

On September 18, Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant formally charging Kevin Zeigler with Domestic Violence 2nd Degree.
