Body Located in Northeast Jefferson County

Shortly after 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 5200 block of Dewey Heights Road in Northeast Jefferson County to investigate an abandoned vehicle.  The vehicle appeared to have been intentionally covered to conceal it.  There was also evidence of the possibility of someone deceased in the area.

Detectives and a cadaver dog were called to the location to further the investigation.  Human remains were located.  Investigators with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office were called to the location this morning to collect the remains for identification and notification of the family.

The vehicle found on scene is a silver Honda Civic thought to be associated with a missing person’s case being investigated by the Birmingham Police Department.  Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives will be working closely with detectives from the Birmingham Police Department to identify the offenders in this homicide.  The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to confirm the identity of the victim.
