Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Charges for Odenville Woman

An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers led detectives to identify a woman using stolen credit cards.

On January 13, 2017, deputies were called to investigate a report of a burglary at a residence in the 6900 block of H B Ware Circle in Clay. It was reported that, while the victims slept, someone entered the home and took a purse and credit cards. The victims’ vehicle was also broken into in the driveway.

While deputies were speaking with the victims they learned that some unknown person had already used their credit card to pay a power bill and at other locations.

A detective began tracking down the locations where the cards were used and was able to obtain video surveillance footage of an unidentified white female suspect using the cards.
The video was shared with Crime Stoppers who asked for tips to identify of the woman. An anonymous tip indicated that the suspect was 36-year-old Beth Chasteen of Odenville.

Sheriff’s detectives checked local pawn shops for any items pawned by the suspect. They found that Chasteen had pawned items on the day of the burglary at a shop in Homewood. She used her ID to pawn the items. The photo on the ID matched the woman in the surveillance video.

Detectives obtained three arrest warrants charging Beth Chasteen with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. Her bond is set at $15,000. She remains at large. Anyone with information on her location is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
