Death of 2-Year-Old in Centerpoint Leads to Arrests

At approximately 12:30 this morning, May 13, 2020, Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 1600 Block of 6th Street North West in Centerpoint to investigate the report of a 2-year-old child who was not breathing. Deputies were told by the parents that the child had been eating and began choking. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. After Detectives began speaking with medical personnel, it was discovered that the child had multiple injuries.

26-year-old Demetric Hampton Sr. and 24-year-old Terrica Harris have been charged with Aggravated Child abuse in the death of 2-year-old, Demetric Hampton, Je. The charges carry no bond. Additional charges are possible as this investigation is continuing.
