A 400 pound calf is resting at the Sheriff’s Rescue Barn after wandering around near Jaybird Road this evening.

Just after 4:30 pm this evening deputies responded to a report of a cow on the loose near Tinmill Road and Jaybird Road. Patrol deputies arrived on scene and located the cow, but could not locate the owner. They called on the Sheriff’s animal cruelty investigator for assistance.

After about an hour of following and trying to capture the young bull he was taken into custody. The owner has not been identified and no one has claimed the animal.

The cow was loaded into a trailer and taken to the Jefferson County Rescue Barn until the owner can be located. The animal was not injured and appears to be in good health.

Anyone who may know the owner is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450.
