Around 2:07 PM today, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Carson Road near Elfreth Johnson Road on reports of an overturned dump truck.  The truck struck a power pole and the collision sparked a woods fire.  The driver was removed from the truck by personnel with Center Point Fire and Rescue and airlifted to UAB Hospital with significant injuries.

The fire has been extinguished, however, due to the significant damaged caused to the power pole, utility services state it could be an estimated 6-8 hours before power, phone and internet service is returned to full capacity in the Northeast Jefferson County area.
