On August 14, 2024, shortly before 1:42 p.m., detectives of the Jefferson County Vice and Narcotics Unit were in the Pratt City area following up on narcotics complaints. Detectives were in a marked unit when they attempted to make a traffic stop on a Blue Ford Edge for failure to stop at a stop sign. When detectives activated their emergency lights, the driver of the vehicle fled. A pursuit ensued. The driver of the vehicle wrecked at 3100 Ensley 5-Points West Avenue (Citco). The suspect was taken into custody after the wreck. The suspect was treated at the scene by medics and was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
During the course of the pursuit, detectives also wrecked their marked unit when they struck a nearby gas pump (Citco). Both detectives were checked at the scene by medics and did not sustain any visible injuries; however, as a precaution, they were both checked out at a local hospital.
Sheriff Mark Pettway stated, “I am very excited that our deputies were able seize the dangerous drugs and weapons that were heading to the streets of Jefferson County. The complaints of our citizens have not gone unnoticed. Our detectives and federal task force officers (TFOs) did an outstanding job in working together. My primary goal is to keep the citizens of Jefferson County safe. I am most certainly pleased that during our efforts to stop this suspect, there were no reported injuries.”
The suspect has been identified as: Bryant Lamar Robertson, 37 of Bessemer Alabama. The following warrants have been obtained against this suspect:
- Trafficking Fentanyl, under a $1,000.00.00 bond; Trafficking Heroin, under a $1,000.00.00 bond; Trafficking Methamphetamine, under a $1,000,000.00 bond; Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine, under a $30,000.00 bond; Felony Fleeing and Eluding, under a $15,000.00 bond and Certain Persons Forbidden, under a $15,000.00. Total bond: $3,060,000.00.
The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
Narcotics seized: 492 grams of methamphetamine, 18 grams of cocaine, 26 grams of Fentanyl, 48 grams of Herion, 18grams of Fentanyl/Methamphetamine mixture
Weapons seized: Glock 23 .40 caliber w/1 magazine CHAMBERED; SOTA Arms SA 15 w/4 magazines w/1 CHAMBERED. Both weapons were reported stolen.
Additional items seized: 5 cell phones,3 digital scales, baggies, backpack and fanny-pack
