Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a homicide after a man was found shot to death in a truck yesterday morning.

Just after 6:00 am yesterday morning deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle accident in the parking lot of Center Point High School. It was reported that a pickup truck had struck a utility pole nearby and then came to rest against a light pole in the parking lot. The accident was discovered by an employee from the school who called 911.

Deputies arrived to find the driver and lone occupant, 31-year-old Jonas Maldonado of Oneonta, suffering from gunshot wounds.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

It is believed that the victim was shot at an unknown location and then drove himself to the parking lot.

The victim’s family reported that he had last been scene at 5:00 am that morning when he left home to go to work.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
