Homicide Investigation

On Monday, September 1, 2025, at approximately 11:41 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 3500 block of White Road, Dora, Alabama to investigate a report of two people shot.  Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 51-year-old female victim, suffering from and apparent gunshot wound.  Deputies also discovered a 55-year-old male suspect, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  Corner Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced both the victim and the suspect deceased.

The suspect has been identified as: Elton James Barks

Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was an apparent murder-suicide.  The victim and the suspect were in a relationship.
