On Thursday November 28, 2019 at approximately 12:05pm, an inmate worker was found hanging in the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham. The inmate worker was found hanging by a bed sheet in a work area. Another inmate worker alerted the jail staff who performed CPR on the inmate until paramedics arrived. The inmate had a faint pulse when he was transported to the hospital but died soon after arrival. The deceased body was turned over to the Coroner’s Office for examination. This death is under investigation.
