Inmate Found Unresponsive in Jefferson County Jail Bessemer

On April 22, 2020, Deputies found a 33 year-old inmate unresponsive inside a cell at the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer.  Deputies and Medical staff attempted life saving efforts on the inmate.  The inmate died during transport to UAB West Hospital.  The inmate was seen on camera inhaling an unknown substance shortly before going into the cell where he was later found.  The cause of death is pending the coroner’s investigation.  This death remains under investigation by Jefferson County Detectives.
