Jefferson County Narcotics Investigation Leads to Arrest and Seizure of Nearly 60 Pounds of Methamphetamine

On Monday, October 5, 2026, Jefferson County Narcotics Investigators, with assistance from SNET and the Vestavia Hills Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit, conducted a traffic stop in the 5400 block of Park Avenue South, Bessemer, AL.  
The traffic stop resulted in one arrest and the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal narcotics.
“I am pleased with this seizure of dangerous drugs”, said Sheriff Mark Pettway.  “This was an outstanding collaborative effort by both the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Vestavia Hills Police Department.  We are greater when we work together.  My number one priority is the safety of the citizens of Jefferson County.”
Narcotics seized:
  • Methamphetamine: 27,098 grams (approximately 59.74 pounds), with an estimated street value of $96,000.
  • Marijuana: 34.5 grams.
The suspect has been identified as:
Donnarius Thomas, 37.
Thomas has been charged with the following offenses:
  • Two counts of Drug Trafficking.
  • Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree.
Thomas is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $706,000.
