Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Domestic Violence Shooting; Suspect in Custody

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a domestic violence-related shooting that left a 29-year-old female with serious injuries.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital to investigate a report of a female suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was involved in a domestic altercation with her husband at a residence located in the 1700 block of 6th Place NW in Center Point, Alabama. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm, striking the victim.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly forced the victim into his vehicle and transported her to the hospital, where she received treatment for serious injuries.

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at approximately 2:28 p.m., detectives located and arrested the suspect in the 5400 block of 12th Court in the Wylam area. The arrest was made without incident.

The suspect has been identified as Anthony Canada, 40. He has been charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling or Vehicle and Domestic Violence in the First Degree. Canada is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
