BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will host graduation for their third sentinel class this weekend. This is yet another tool from JCSO to create a safer environment for all residents of Jefferson County. As sentinels, participants will serve as the eyes and ears of the community, providing valuable information and insights that help JCSO address potential threats before they escalate. Sheriff Mark Pettway says this program is vital in today’s world as the challenges to public safety are ever evolving and the role of the faith community in supporting law enforcement has never been more critical.
“The public’s participation in this program signifies a shared commitment to vigilance, collaboration, and proactive community policing,” Sheriff Pettway said. “Together, we can make a profound impact on reducing crime and fostering a sense of security among our neighbors.”
The training for the Sentinel Program is based on 64 hours (8 training days, 8 hours a day) plus a minimum 16 hours firearms equaling 80-hour program. The $250.00 fee covers all necessary expenses for the class, including dinner and snacks for Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions, snacks for Saturday sessions, the cost of ammunition for firearms training and qualification, and any additional materials required for the course.
