Juvenile Arrested in Theft of Vehicle with Child Inside

On Friday, April 24, 2020 at 9:48 PM, a vehicle was stolen from the 2600 Block of 5th Way Northwest in Centerpoint with a child inside. The child was located 50 minutes later after being dropped off on the porch of a nearby home.

On Saturday, April 25th, 2020, at 11:30 AM, citizens called in a sighting of the vehicle that was stolen on Friday night to the Birmingham Police Department. Deputies and Police Officers went to the 600 Block of Earline Circle and located the vehicle.

Based on witness’s descriptions, Deputies were able to take a 17 year-old juvenile into custody as a suspect.  The juvenile admitted to stealing the car, but is insistent that he did not know the baby was inside. When he realized the baby was in the car, he tried to take the baby back. He said he panicked because there were so many police around the location from which he stole the car. That is when he left the baby at the location where it was found unharmed.

The juvenile said he wants to apologize to the baby’s mother. He will be charged as a juvenile in this case.
