McCalla Man Charged with Car Break-Ins

A 26-year-old McCalla man has been charged with a series of car break-ins in the Coleman Lakes area.

On the morning of August 9th deputies responded to three separate reports of car break-ins in the area of Serene Lake Road and Serene Ridge Circle. Each of the vehicles had been left unlocked.

Shortly after completing the reports for these crimes, deputies were called to investigate a report of a suspicious person passed out in a vehicle at a drug store on nearby Eastern Valley Road. They arrived to find 26-year-old Michael Alan Chapman asleep in a car on the parking lot. The car had been reported stolen by his girlfriend’s mother. Chapman was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property. During a subsequent inventory of the car deputies discovered items that were reported stolen during the car break-ins. The property was identified by the victims and returned to them.

On August 15, deputies obtained arrest warrants charging Chapman with the car break-ins. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree, Receiving Stolen Property 3rd Degree, Receiving Stolen Property 4th Degree, and Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle. His bond is set at $54,000.
