Sheriff Mike will be at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Training Academy tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 to discuss equipping deputies with Automated External Defibrillators. He will be joined by Jon Seale of Cardiac Solutions.

Sudden cardiac arrest is among the leading causes of death in the United States. In fact, more than 350,000 people will suffer a cardiac arrest this year. Currently, the only way to restore a regular heart rhythm during cardiac arrest is to use an AED.

Automated External Defibrillators are used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It’s a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. These devices will help deputies save lives in the event of a sudden cardiac emergency.

The Sheriff’s Training Academy is located at 3500 Happy Hollow Road, Fultondale. Media is encouraged to attend to see how deputy training is conducted and to witness a demonstration of the devices. Please confirm attendance by calling 205-325-5711.
