A 20-year-old Midfield man was arrested yesterday for trafficking heroin and cocaine.

Dyan Sams

Yesterday afternoon Sheriff’s narcotics investigators were conducting surveillance in the Sherman Heights neighborhood as part of an ongoing investigation into drug sales in the area. They spotted a vehicle previously identified as being involved in drug sales leaving the area.

A marked patrol unit arrived and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop and began driving recklessly. The deputy in the marked unit chose not to pursue the car out of concern for public safety. Unmarked units canvassed the area and found the suspect running from the car near Avenue F and 32nd Street in Ensley. After a brief foot chase, 20-year-old Dyan Sams of Midfield was taken in to custody.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle deputies found 34 grams of cocaine, 6 grams of heroin, and digital scales.

Sams was arrested and charged with Trafficking Heroin, Trafficking Cocaine, Reckless Endangerment, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
