Mining Accident

Just after 11:00 am this morning deputies were called to a coal mining facility in the 8300 block of Taylor’s Ferry Road to investigate a report of an adult male injured by mining equipment.

Information on the scene is that the victim was conducting maintenance on a piece of equipment when it collapsed on him. The accident occurred approximately 800 feet below ground. Other mine workers administered first aid transported the victim to paramedics waiting at the surface. He was pronounced dead when he arrived on the surface.

The Federal Mine Health and Safety Administration is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.

The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of his family.
