The body believed to be that of a missing Center Point man was located today in a wooded area not far from his home.

On November 20, 2016, deputies were called to a home in the 2100 block of 5th Way Circle in Center Point to investigate a report of a missing person. It was reported by family members that 59-year-old Michael Jones was missing. His wife said he was last seen on the back porch of the home shortly after 3:00 am on November 19. Jones was not seen again.

According to his family, Jones was prescribed regular medication that he did not take with him. He did not drive and is believed to have walked away from the residence. It was not uncommon for him to walk off and not return for several hours.

Deputies searched the area and did not locate Mr. Jones. A missing senior alert was issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. K9 search teams were brought in to aid in the search.

Deputies returned to the area several times over the following and were unable to locate him.

This afternoon, detectives returned to the area near the residence with a K9 search dog. Shortly after beginning the search, a body believed to be that of Michael Jones was located in a wooded lot not far from his home.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.
