Murder Charges Obtained in Death of 2-Year-Old

Warrants have been obtained in the murder of 2-year-old, Demetric Hampton, Jr. Deputies were called to a home in the 1600 Block of 6th Street North West in Center Point around 12:30 AM on May 13, 2020, to investigate a report of a child who was not breathing. According to the father, 26-year-old, Demetric Hampton, Sr., his son had been eating and had started choking. He said he removed the food from the child’s airway and began life-saving efforts. Hampton, Sr. said his wife, 24-year-old, Terrica Harris was not at home at the time, but arrived home shortly before medics made it to the scene.

Further investigation revealed the toddler had multiple injuries and burns that were not consistent with the parent’s stories. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reviewed the evidence with the District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney’s Office has concluded that charges of Murder and aggravated child abuse would be issued in the case against Demetric Hampton, Sr. and that the charge of aggravated child abuse would be issued against the toddler’s step-mother, Terrica Harris. Hampton, Sr. will have no bond and Harris has a $60,000 Bond.  Both are being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
