Narcotics and Weapon Seizure

On October 16, 2024, Detectives of the Jefferson County Narcotic’s Division and the Patrol Division were conducting an operation when they conducted a traffic stop on a black GMC Yukon for traffic violations at the intersection of 2nd Pl NW and Glenvalley Ln NW, Birmingham, Alabama. The traffic stop resulted in an arrest and seizure of narcotics and currency.
Detectives and members of SWAT stopped a white Chevy Tahoe at the 400 block of Bethel Road in a related operation.  The stop also resulted in an arrest and seizure of narcotics and a weapon.
Sheriff Mark Pettway stated, “Information is key.  No one knows more about what is occurring in a neighborhood than the people who live there.  We are very appreciative of those who come forward with information to help us.  It is critical that we continue to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.  My main goal is to keep the citizens of Jefferson County safe.”
Suspect #1 has been identified as: Mark Corstanzo Morton, age, 52.  The suspect has been charged with Drug Trafficking with a $500.000.00 bond; Drug Possession with intent to Distribute with a $30,000.00 bond; and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with a $300.00 bond.  Total bond: $530,300.00.  The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
Suspect #2 has been identified as:  Phillip Michael Johnson, age, 35.  The suspect has been charged with 3 counts of Drug Trafficking with no bond.  The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

Narcotics seized: 1022.55 grams of Methamphetamine, 112.1 grams of Cocaine, 1733 grams of Marijuana, .2.75 grams of Heroin, and 2.97 grams of Crack Cocaine

Weapon seized: Taurus Judge (stolen)

Money seized: $5,538 of US Currency
