Narcotics and Weapons Seizure

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office SNET Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Chevrolet pickup truck; however, the driver refused to stop.  The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and crashed at Cotton Avenue and Lomb Avenue.  Three male suspects exited the vehicle in an attempt to elude apprehension.  Deputies appended all three suspects without incident.  It was discovered that the suspect vehicle was reported stolen by the Birmingham Police Department.

Suspect #1 has been identified as: Makrell Jermaine Tolbert, age, 20.  Tolbert has been charged with Attempting to Elude with a $2,500.00 bond; Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree with a $2,500.00 bond and Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree with a $2,500.00 bond.  The suspect has been released on bond from the Jefferson County Jail.  A photo of the suspect is not available at this time.

Suspect #2 has been identified as: Amare Darnell Tate, age, 20.  Tate has been charged with Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree with a $5,000.00 bond; and Receiving Stolen Property with a $10,000.00 bond.  The suspect has been released on bond from the Jefferson County Jail.

Suspect #3 has not been formally charged at this time.

Narcotics seized: 170 grams of marijuana

Vehicle(s) seizes: 2022 Chevy 1500 (Stolen)

Weapons seized: Smith and Wesson SD9 (S/N FDH5590), Glock 22 .40 Cal (S/N FUU097), Taurus G20 9mm (S/N ABB298069) Glock 21 .40 Cal (S/N XUC723), Palmetto State Armory PA-15

Additional Items Seized: 1 cellphone
