At approximately 2:48 AM this morning, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Old Tuscaloosa Highway at Woodview Lane in Unincorporated Western Jefferson County, to investigate a single vehicle traffic accident. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a vehicle occupied by two females had left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The 48-year-old female driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. A 56-year-old female passenger was transported to UAB Hospital with critical injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Reconstruction Team. The victim’s identity will be confirmed by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
