One Deceased After Shooting in Western Jefferson County

At approximately 6:45 AM, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 6600 block of Newbridge Cove in unincorporated Western Jefferson County on reports of a burglary in progress.  Upon arrival, deputies encountered a male subject who was deceased at the scene.  The initial investigation suggests that the deceased subject was hiding inside the home and was discovered by the homeowner.  The subject began to leave the residence but was confronted by another resident who was sleeping in a room near the exit.  Witnesses state that shots were exchanged between the deceased subject and the second resident.  Both subjects were struck by gunfire.  The male resident was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are currently interviewing the witnesses in this case and are working to identify the deceased subject.  More information will be released as the investigation continues.
