On Thursday night, June 17, 2022, at approximately 11:08 PM, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 5900 block of Coleman Lakes Road in McCalla, to investigate a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a 46-year-old male who was deceased from a single gunshot wound. According to reports, the deceased subject had assaulted a family member, who in turn, fired a single shot in self-defense. The case is still being investigated and the evidence will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Bessemer to determine if criminal charges would be appropriate. There have been no arrests made at this time.
