Around 8:15 PM on Saturday, February 17th, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the emergency room of UAB Medical Center West to investigate a child who had been brought in with multiple bodily injuries. The toddler was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office and Investigators from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office were called in to investigate. Details from the determined that the case would be investigated as a homicide. The child’s mother’s boyfriend, 27-year-old Oscar Espinoza Guadarrama was taken into custody and placed in the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer. Guadarrama is currently being held without bond.
The evidence will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Bessemer, who will determine the issuance of charges against Guadarrama for the death of the 19-month-old.
