Just before 5:00 am this morning a deputy patrolling along Highway 78 in Adamsville saw a car speeding away from a pharmacy located near Minor Parkway. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over.
A chase began that traveled along Minor Parkway and into the Wylam area of west Birmingham. As the driver attempted to negotiate a sharp curve on 8th Avenue in Wylam, he lost control of the car. The car left the road and became stuck in a ditch. The two occupants of the car fled on foot. The driver was captured a short distance away. The passenger was not located.
Deputies learned that there had been a burglary at Brooklere Pharmacy in Adamsville.
The driver identified himself as Charles Jackson, but offered a false date of birth. He was identified as 48-year-old Charles Wynn Jackson of Bessemer. He was charged with Providing False Information to Law Enforcement, Attempting to Elude, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail and Adamsville Police are expected to obtain warrants charging him with the burglary of the pharmacy later today.
The passenger has been identified and Adamsville Police also is expected to charge him with burglary later today. His identity is withheld pending formal charges.
