Sheriff’s Office Announces Drug Trafficking Charges Against Murder Suspect

A Birmingham man arrested last week now faces drug trafficking charges.

35-year-old Kevin Lewayne Speakman of Birmingham was arrested last week for the murder of Toney Myers. Speakman shot Myers during a fight at home in the 100 block of 14th Avenue NW.

On September 21, detectives from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Speakman at a hotel in Irondale. While making the arrest detectives discovered illegal drugs in the hotel room. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit were called to the scene.

Investigators discovered marijuana, LSD, GHB, and eighty-five grams of methamphetamine. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be more than $8,500.

Late Friday afternoon narcotics investigators obtained an additional arrest warrant charging Speakman with Trafficking Methamphetamine. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
