At about 1:00 am this morning deputies responded to a report of several shots fired in the 4600 block of Letson Street in Brighton. When they arrived in the area they were flagged down by an adult male that told them his girlfriend had been shot and the shooters had fled the area on foot. He could not provide a description of the shooters.
Deputies located the adult female victim. She was suffering from gunshot wounds to her hip and side. Paramedics were called and she was transported to UAB hospital in Birmingham.
Information at the scene was that the victim and her boyfriend had been outside in front of his house. Someone began shooting at them from a wooded area across the street. The victim believes that there was more than one shooter. After firing several shots the shooters fled the area and were not located when deputies arrived.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital.
