Sheriff’s Office Investigating Homicide

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after the body of an adult male was discovered in the McCalla.

About 3:30 yesterday afternoon Sheriff’s detectives were contacted by Bessemer Police detectives requesting assistance in locating a body. Bessemer Police received a tip through Crime Stoppers that indicated the victim had been murdered and the body placed behind a vacant home in the 7300 block of Springer Road in McCalla.

Deputies and Bessemer Police went to the area and located human remains behind a vacant house. The remains were badly decomposed. Positive identification and cause of death have not yet been determined.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777 or the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450
