Just before 6:00 am today deputies were called to a pet grooming business in the 7600 block of Bankhead Highway to investigate a report of a fugitive being spotted there. It was reported that the man had outstanding warrants with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. Walker County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the warrants and asked that Jefferson County send deputies to detain him until they could get there.

While deputies were on the way they received information that the wanted man had been shot.

Information at the scene is that the wanted man was recognized by another man at the business. That man drew a handgun and ordered the fugitive to get down on the ground to await the arrival of deputies. The fugitive instead charged at the man with the gun. He was shot in the arm and the leg. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
