Sheriff’s Office Investigating Shooting of Alpaca

The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an animal cruelty investigation into the shooting and killing of an alpaca near Corner in northern Jefferson County.

Just after 5:30 yesterday afternoon deputies were called to a home in the 4100 block of Warrior-Jasper Road to investigate a report of an animal being shot. The owner of the animal reported that he usually feeds his alpacas around 4:00 pm daily. He noticed that one of them did not come to eat. He searched for the animal and found it had been shot twice and killed. The shooting likely happened sometime during the night of August 7.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
