Shooting Investigation now a Homicide Investigation

Sheriff’s detectives are now conducting a homicide investigation after an 18-year-old male victim of a shooting this afternoon in McDonalds Chapel died at an area hospital.
 
At about 3:00 this afternoon deputies responded to a shooting complaint at a convenience store in the 3200 block of Birmingport Road.
 
It was reported that several shots had been fired between two groups of men in the store parking lot. Two adult men involved had been shot and transported to an area hospital in private cars. One of the men, an 18-year-old, died at the hospital.
His name is withheld pending notification of family. 
 
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
