At about 7:00 am this morning deputies responded to reports of a person with a weapon in the 6500 block of Loveless Park Loop in McCalla.
Deputies arrived in the area and located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds walking in the 6200 block of Lou George Loop with an adult female. Deputies learned that the man had been shot by another adult male at a residence in the 6500 block of Loveless Park Loop. Deputies went to that residence and found no one home.
A 911 caller reported the shooter was in a wooded area behind the residence. As deputies began to search, the person involved walked out of the woods and surrendered without incident.
The shooting victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The shooter and the woman are being questioned by detectives.
The investigation indicates that the shooter is the homeowner. This morning he heard a knock at his door. He looked out to see a person wearing a hoodie with their face covered. He retrieved his gun and told the person to identify themselves. The person would not do so. He told the person he had a gun. When he looked out again he saw a person running away. He opened the door to find a second person crouched in front of it. He backed into his house and ordered the person to stop, but the man continued to advance. The homeowner fired a shot that struck the man. The suspect then fled on foot to where he was located by deputies.
Detectives learned that the suspects were the niece of the homeowner and her fiancée. They came to the residence to use force to take back property they believed had been stolen from her.
No charges will be filed against the homeowner. The case will be reviewed by a grand jury for determination of charges against the niece and her fiancée.
