A 17-year-old Center Point teen is in the Jefferson County Jail charged with Attempted Murder for his role in the shooting of a 35-year-old woman yesterday afternoon.

Decarlos Thirkield

Just before 3:30 yesterday afternoon deputies responded to a shooting complaint at Magnolia Trace Apartments in the 300 block of 20th Ave NE. It was reported that a woman had been shot and the suspect had fled the scene in a black car.

Deputies arrived to find an adult female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. An ambulance crew was at the apartment complex returning a dialysis patient and immediately began treating the victim.

She was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released.

Undercover Sheriff’s units were in the area working a holiday crime suppression detail. A deputy on the detail saw the shooter and a second teen come out of the woods and get into a car. He followed in his unmarked unit until marked units could make a traffic stop. The occupants were detained and questioned.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was identified as the shooter.

The investigation determined the victim confronted teens that were arguing in the parking lot when one of the teens pulled a gun, shot the victim and fled on foot.

The 17-year-old suspect determined to be the shooter was subsequently jailed and the others in custody released.

This morning detectives obtained an arrest warrant formally charging 17-year-old Decarlos Lamar Thrikield as an adult with Attempted Murder. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $35,000.
