Just after 10 am this morning Deputies were notified of a two vehicle accident on Highway 79 near Higginbotham Rd. Witnesses reported a passenger vehicle driven by a 61-year-old female was headed north on Hwy 79, when it crossed completely into the south bound lane and struck a pickup truck head on that was traveling southbound on Hwy 79. The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead on scene. The 30-year-old male driver of the truck and three passengers were transported to UAB Hospital with what are believed non-life threatening injuries.

The sheriffs office START team is investigating the accident.
