Two Arrested for Center Point Burglary

Just after 1:30 yesterday afternoon deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment in the 100 block of Spring Garden Way. It was reported that two black males had been seen removing a window from the home and climbing inside.

Deputies arrived and found a rear window had been broken. A black male matching the description given was seen running up a nearby staircase to another apartment. He was detained. A second male came out from the upstairs apartment and indicated that the other suspect was hiding inside. Deputies entered the apartment and took the second suspect into custody.

The suspects’ vehicle was found sitting in the parking lot of the apartment complex. A 42” television was found inside. The victim arrived on scene and identified the television as hers.

The suspects were identified as the two who had committed the burglary. 18 year old Terreus Marquez Cooper of Center Point and 26 year old Billy Kennard Smith Jr. of Birmingham were both charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Theft of Property 3rd Degree. They were taken to the Jefferson County Jail where they posted $2800 bond and were released.
