Two men have been charged with the burglary of a home in southern Jefferson County.
On July 9, deputies were called to a home in the 6000 block of Russet Meadows Drive to investigate a burglary. It was reported that two unknown black males wearing yellow reflective vests had been seen running from the home and getting into a gold pickup truck.
Deputies arrived to find the front door to the home had been forced open. A television had been removed from a wall in the in the home and a laptop computer had been stolen.
Deputies learned that a pair of men matching the description of the suspects had been seen on surveillance video at a home in Helena the same day. Copies of still photographs of the suspects were sent to detectives.
Using the surveillance video and information developed by the Metro Area Crime Center, detectives identified the suspects as 32-year-old Edwin Martell Underwood and 23-year-old Shawn McDaniel both of Birmingham.
On July 19, detectives obtained arrest warrants charging the men with Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and Theft of Property 2nd Degree. Bond is set at $35,000 each. The men remain at large.
