Two men have been charged with attempted murder for their role in a weekend shooting that sent two women to area hospitals.

Tonio Givens

James Sinclair

About 1:45 pm on Saturday February 10, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of 3rd Street in Docena. It was reported that two women had been shot.

When deputies arrived both victims had been taken from the scene in private vehicles. One was taken to a fire station in Wylam where she was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. The other returned to the scene shortly after deputies arrived and was transported to an area hospital from there. Their injuries were not life threatening.

Information on the scene was that the victims were riding in a car with a man who has had an ongoing feud with another person in the neighborhood. As they passed through the area two suspects fired several shots into the car striking the victims.

Detectives learned that the driver of the car was the boyfriend of one of the victims. He had an ongoing feud with 21-year-old James Sinclair. Sinclair and 20-year-old Tonio Givens were outside when the victim’s car came down the street. Sinclair told detectives that, when he saw the car, he believed the boyfriend was coming to harm him so he and Givens began shooting at the car.

21-year-old James Sinclair of Docena was taken into custody on the scene and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Yesterday afternoon detectives obtained arrest warrants charging both Sinclair and Givens with two counts of Attempted Murder.

Sinclair remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $150,000.

Givens is at large. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
